As Belinda watched him go, she was thinking hard. What the hell was she doing? He didn't know her secret. And she wasn't sure she was going to tell him - yet. Maybe she would, but not now. Right now, she needed to know more. Ben said Shangnaman was dead and that he wasn't here to find her, just visit the festival. In fact, Ben didn't appear to know anything about her. That was puzzling. He was a Gladius; he should have known about her.

Very few people in her former life knew she could sense a person, their thoughts, feelings, their entire being. That ability had saved her life.

As a result, she could tell if they were lying and Ben wasn't. She could sense he was a very good man, but one with a deep wound that he hid. That drew her. She couldn't help it. It was her nature to give help when it was needed, to gently nurture and give love. That was why wild things came to her hand.

Now she had a hard, tough man that need her help and she needed to give it, to make things right. That was just the way she was. There might just be something else here too, she thought with a little smile. For the first time, she sensed a person that could make her complete. She was tired of being alone.
